Facts About the Adorable Munchkin Cat Breed

First Munchkin was found in Louisiana in 1983. Breed was established in 90s by crossing Munchkin with domestic shorthairs. Name comes from short legs.

Origins

Medium-sized cats with short legs caused by genetic mutation. Round head, pointed ears, stocky torso. Come in all coat colors and patterns. 

Appearance  

Active, playful and outgoing. Love climbing, explore new places. Affectionate and enjoy human interaction. Smart and easily trained.

Personality 

Require regular nail trims, ear cleaning, teeth brushing. Use puzzle feeders for stimulation. Groom long-haired varieties 2-3 times a week.  

Care Tips

Prone to lordosis, pectus excavatum, joint issues. Can develop heart murmurs, hair loss. Sensitive to anesthesia. Lifespan 12-15 years.

Health Issues

Munchkins come in longhair and shorthair varieties. Love playing fetch and racing around the house. Nicknamed "Sausage Cat" and "Dachshund Cat".
